Business Manager – Horticulture & Life Sciences

Full time position, fixed term for 2 years

We seek an exceptional individual for this new position at Eden.

You will work closely with our Horticulture and Science team managers to develop and deliver operational strategies and processes that ensure Eden site delivers a world class garden and horticultural experience for all our visitors.

You will be organised and efficient and be able to support the team through project monitoring, reporting and budget control. Horticulture and Science qualifications are not essential, of more importance are project management, budget management and reporting experience to support operational stakeholders

Cashier (Cash Office Operative) – Two Contracts Available

X1 - Permanent Contract of 16 hours per week
X1 – Fixed Term Contract of 16 hours per week until 30th September 2018
£7.85 per hour 

We are looking for two new team member to join our Cashiers team. We have two contracts available, one on a fix term basis until 30th September, and one on a permanent basis. Please specify which contract you're applying for within your application. 

Working with a small team you will manage all cash moved through the business to support other Eden Teams, and the wider financial management of the business.  We are looking for someone with experience of working in a cash office or similar financial background, ideally (but not essential) in a business of a similar size.

You will be expected to have achieved GCSE level A-C for Maths and English (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate good levels of numeracy and literacy and be a competent user of Microsoft Excel or similar software.  Eden is a unique year round visitor destination, offering a wide seasonal programme; as such the role requires weekend and evening working. You will be a good communicator, able to respond to changing demands and be flexible and responsive to support the changing business models across the seasons.

Eden Project Communities has UK wide reach and delivers initiatives that encourage public engagement and participation in positive action and create real social capital on a mass scale.  Since it began in 2009, participation in The Big Lunch, the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, has grown continually with the number of people taking part in 2017 rising to over 9 million.  Alongside this we deliver initiatives that encourage connections, engage the public and help people across the UK build the skills and confidence to drive positive social action where it is needed most.

We are looking for a new team member who loves working with people and communities to join our UK wide team of Community Connectors. A key part of your role is providing a vibrant calendar of events and activities for the programme in a regional context through developing Exchange Hubs and building support networks for those who take part in all our events. 

Over the next 4 years we are growing participation in the programme to new heights and aim to increase the social impact we have on communities and neighbourhoods all over the UK.  You’ll help us increase awareness of and participation in all aspects of the programme, including our Community Camps, Exchange Hubs, The Great Big Walk and The Big Lunch. 

The right individual will be able to help us by leading the development of networks (Exchange Hubs) in their territory that engage individuals and organisations and encouraging people to engage in our campaigns and do more in their communities year round. You will be part of a team of Community Connectors and supported by Community Network Manager. 

Our ideal candidate will have at a minimum of 2 years’ experience in community development and organizing projects.  You’ll have experience of working in the community sector and in developing local networks and have strong relationship building skills.  A natural host, you’ll be familiar with setting up and running events that bring epiple together and can manage multiple activities running in parallel as part of our busy team.

Working for the Eden Project (Charity number 1093070), roles within the programme are funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.  This is a fixed term contract for 4 years subject to funding. The post holder will be based within the region (London Office), and will be required to travel across the territory, the UK and to the Eden Project in Cornwall for key events and meetings.

Communities Research Manager, Cornwall

We are looking for an exceptional Research Manager to lead on the evaluation and research of our communities work across a rich palette of initiatives.  This work will involve working with external agencies as well as conducting research directly with participants for elements of the programme.  Over the next 4 years we are growing participation in the programme to new heights and aiming to increase the social impact that the programme has on communities and neighbourhoods all over the UK.  

The right individual will be able to help us by leading the development of a research programme across all elements of delivery to help us evidence required funder outcomes and generate an excellent body of information about the social impact of our initiatives.  You will take the lead in developing and implementing a new research strategy across the programme that captures the social impact of what we do, evidences required outcomes and identifies areas of focus for funders and our team. You will be supported by a UK wide team and based in our Eden office working closely with our Programme Director, Delivery Manager and Development Manager.

Our ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar research position, preferably charity based.  You’ll have experience in project managing and delivering a busy and varied research programme and the ability to analyse and interpret complex data sets and produce and deliver clear and accurate reports and presentations.

Director of Philanthropy

The Eden Project is a charity that strives to connect us with each other and the living world.  

We’re at a really exciting point in our story right now, which is why this new post of Director of Philanthropy is so important.  There are global challenges facing all of us. We have big ambitions, creating and developing the ideas that help meet these at our Cornish home, across the UK and Internationally.

The Outreach & Development Team has been building a major donor fundraising capability as part of our overall approach to Fundraising. We have developed a small network of potential supporters, underpinned by a strategic process that will create the opportunity for sustained support and investment into Eden's charitable mission.

This newly created role will provide strategic leadership for high value, relationship-based fundraising. Working closely with the Executive and Board, our new Director will be responsible for building on the work done to date, refining the core cases for support, extending the network of potential donors, leading to the launch of a major fundraising campaign. This work will be primarily focused in the UK and US but with the intent that we develop our philanthropic donations and network globally as appropriate.

Our leadership team is driving a new and ambitious strategy and we aim to make good on our promise to change the world; as Eden's Director of Philanthropy you will be an integral part of our team and sustainable growth strategy. 

Key accountabilities

•Lead high value, relationship-based fundraising for the organisation. 

•Chair, host, develop and engage the UK Planning Committee as the foundation for driving philanthropic giving.

•Plan and execute the launch of a fundraising campaign of up to £50m 

•Identify, develop and sustain high quality contacts, partnerships and relationships to underpin the Eden Project’s growth strategy

•Develop a fundraising strategy for Eden Project America.

•Provide effective leadership as a member of the Senior Management Team, reporting to the CEO, and play a full part in wider leadership of the organisation.

Person Specification

•Senior leader with a proven track record including a minimum of 10 years’ experience in securing major donations, including fundraising campaigns exceeding £10m.

•Extensive relationship building skills with a niche audience and strong theoretical knowledge on how to cultivate these relationships to encourage philanthropic giving at the highest level required. 

•Solid understanding of the legal, regulatory and ethical environment of fundraising, including Data Protection and Gift Aid. (For Eden USA, an understanding of the formation and running of 501(c)3 structures would be advantageous.)

•Exceptional interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.

The role will be UK based with the potential for regular UK wide travel, primarily between Cornwall and London. Some overseas travel may also be required to the US and other destinations.

Storyteller (Level 4 Narrator)

Permanent Position

40 hours per week available

£9.72 per hour

We are looking for a Storyteller to join the team in the new year. This Storyteller needs to have an ‘up for anything’ attitude, be dependable, hardworking and willing to learn multiple topics and stories. We require a team player who is also capable of developing individual ideas. You will ideally have a broad sense of creativity, stories to tell and a good understanding of Eden. Our Seasons come with high intensity and lots of energy so a sense of fun and strong stamina is essential. Proven performance skills and experience would be ideal and you will be very happy to perform in front of 200 people on your own. Training for specific and relevant seasonal performances will be given. 

As part of the interview process we would like you to present a 10-15 minute contemporary story/performance, using part of the Eden ethos as your inspiration. The story/performance will be delivered in our Citrus Grove.

Sous Chef

Eden has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Chef to join its highly regarded hospitality team with a start date of 1st April 2018.  You will take the lead on developing and cooking dishes that are highly appealing to both visitors and colleagues alike, whilst ensuring that you stay within set budgets.

Our preferred candidate will have experience of working in a high volume, fast paced environment. They will be creative, ambitious, enthusiastic, inspiring and lead their team by example.  We are looking for candidates who have experience of working at a Sous Chef level and are looking for a new challenge in a unique setting.
