Volunteer at the Eden Project
- Variety of teams
- Long-term opportunities
- Choose a regularity that suits you
Eden offers a wide range of volunteering opportunities. It's a great way to become involved in our day-to-day work, in a role that is varied and educational, as well as enormously satisfying. We also offer structured internship opportunities.
Volunteering is a great way to immerse yourself in things you enjoy doing, while helping make Eden an even friendlier and more interesting place for our visitors.
Many of our volunteering opportunities are in visitor-facing roles, meaning volunteers provide that vital link between the visiting public and the Project, highlighting our work in conservation, education and sustainability
As well as being part of a team, and playing a fulfilling role in helping us achieve our educational mission, you’ll enjoy benefits including:
- discounts in our cafes and shops
- discounts at local businesses
- free travel across Cornwall on First Bus
How it works
You can choose from a variety of opportunities within different teams, and find a regularity that suits you. Most of our volunteers join us for a day a month; others join us each week, while some volunteer for just one week a year.
Take a look at our current opportunities below – and visit our FAQs below for more practical information.
'I would definitely encourage anyone who's thinking of volunteering.... it keeps you active and you get to enjoy the benefits of being in this beautiful place.'
Laura, St Austell
Many volunteers apply to join, but some volunteers choose an area of interest and we get in touch each time a suitable activity comes up – whether it be some help in the office or at an event.
If you're unable to find a suitable opportunity below, do give us a call on 01726 818558 to have a chat about what you're looking for, or email firstname.lastname@example.org

Volunteers will help maintain, plant, weed, prepare the ground and harvest. Horticulture experience not essential, as instruction will be given, but a keen interest in horticulture is an advantage. This is a physically demanding role which will be based predominantly outside. Frequently asked questions
Should I apply to become a volunteer or an intern instead?
We tend to recommend doing one of our Eden internships if you have a limited amount of time and are looking to gain some industry-specific experience, whereas volunteering with us is often a more long-term arrangement. Find out more about internships at Eden
How long should I volunteer for?
We would prefer you to volunteer for a minimum of a week a year. Most of our volunteers offer approximately a day a month minimum, with some joining us each week.
Do you pay travel expenses?
Yes we can cover car mileage or public transport costs for travel to Eden from your accommodation in Cornwall, or as agreed with the Volunteer Manager at the start of your placement.
Do you provide accommodation?
Unfortunately we don’t, but we have put together an accommodation guide to help you find local, affordable accommodation.
Can you give references?
Of course! It’s the least we can do to show our appreciation to you for volunteering with us.
Will I have an interview?
We often invite applicants in for an informal chat before they join us. Also, each volunteer placement is subject to a short trial period, agreed with your manager.
What if I have a criminal record?
As an organisation committed to equality and diversity, we recognise the contribution that all people can make as employees or volunteers, and so we welcome enquiries of interest from everyone. Your role may be subject to a DBS check and we reserve the right to decline your application.
I need a visa to volunteer in the UK, can Eden sponsor my visa?
Eden is registered with the UK Boarder Agency as a sponsor, so if your application to volunteer is successful we can sponsor your visa application.
What benefits are you able to offer?
As well as travel expenses and a reference (oh, and that feel-good factor!), you’ll enjoy a reduced rate in our cafe and shop on site, plus discounts at local businesses, and the opportunity to invite friends and family in for free. You'll also enjoy free travel across Cornwall on First Buses. We can tell you more about all this on your welcome day.
I can’t find a suitable role for me, what shall I do?
The best thing to do is to talk to us, so give us a call on 01726 811900 or email email@example.com to discuss your requirements.
